The art of marquetry

The art of marquetry appeared at the beginning of the 19th century in Morocco, and the sultans appealed to craftsmen to make decorative objects, furniture or musical instruments...

The marquetry consists in sticking a mosaic of precious wood on a carpentry background, where are encrusted debris of shells like mother-of-pearl, or filaments of silver metal. It is also decorated with floral ornaments or geometric figures.

In Essaouira, the artisanal marquetry of cedar wood is available in many forms: boxes, jewelry boxes, games, tables, pots...

The artisans, originally souiri (inhabitants of Essaouira) for the most part, excel at working this wood (which tends to burst easily), to bring out the veining of the wood and to make it smooth and shiny by a fine polishing then a Varnishing using the buffer technique.

The Moroccan salon

A privileged place of the house, a cozy nest dedicated to relaxation and well-being, the traditional Moroccan living room carries high the decorative art of Moroccan handicrafts. It highlights the nobility of this ancestral know-how that passes through time.

A range of nice iron chairs

Moroccan wrought iron chairs are made in Marrakech by craftsmen blacksmiths. They often accompany the mosaic tables of zellige to decorate a garden, a terrace or your house interior.

All chairs are made of 12 mm or 14 mm full iron, for a standard seat height of 40 cm. Here we present a selection of refined models for a decoration of the house and the garden full of charm.
