Made of fabrics and wool in the Ourika Valley. The “Boucharouite”, in arabic “Bu Sherwit” means piece made of torn or pre used fabric or rag. This style is the result of a change in the Moroccan society when the berber tribes started to settle and went into farming or other form or employment in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Materials for these rugs may include wool, cotton, synthetic fibre, lurex, nylon and plastic. The rugs are free style they do not respond to any logic except the one of the weaver who may have been influenced by patterns and designs from her own ancestral tribe.
Traditionally, these rugs were created with bits of leftover textiles in places where raw materials were rare — a beautiful and resourceful way to recycle. Today, Berber women continue the tradition, crafting rugs in an eye-popping array of colors and wild patterns.
They are fun, vibrant, very often colourful and very much in fashion at the moment. Enjoy!

An amazing tribal azilal rug

Azilal rugs are a single knot, handmade Moroccan carpets from the Azilal province of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. These pieces are traditionally cream with few multi colors, occasionally found with additional colors such as red, green and pink. Their size is usually of 131 cm x 317 cm = 4.2 ft x 10.4 ft. While the patterns may seem whimsical and random, they are very telling of the maker’s huge sense of creativity.

Knotted by hand, usually by a woman, they can take up to a year to complete. The intuition, experience and fantasy of the women weaving and knotting the rug permeate their work. The pattern and symbolism in the rug is the voice and expression of the weaver and usually tells a rich story of her life and what is happening to her during that time.

Free shipping – antique & vintage painted cedar wood nomad chest

I am a rug collector, during our trips to Moroccan sites we met great native Moroccan Berbers,
nomads … we also met with great treasures, and last year I bought a very old Jewish Torah,
This Year I start my trip with great Berber wooden chest that I bought it and it’s here waiting for a lucky Customer. It is absolutely a Hand painted Berber Moroccan Chest with unparalleled artisanship that is completely revealed in the motifs, and also evokes the warm hospitality of the Berber homes.

Ahmed was the owner of this vintage chest; he told us that he bought it on his first marriage back in 1965. The lower arches create a typical Moorish architectural feature. This is a definite conversation-piece chest. It’s collectable Item which fits all interior home design!
