The Hanbel carpets (Morocco) or Kilim (used in Turkey) are carpets of wool that are embroidered originating in Morocco of the region of Rabat and part of the Middle Atlas. The Hanbel rugs of Morocco are often referred to by the term Kilim or Kelim (Turkish origin), a name derived from Persian gelim. Kilim designates a carpet devoid of velvet because it is embroidered instead of knotted.

These carpets symbolize the identity of the tribes that weave them; their decoration is therefore specific to each tribe. The Kilim carpets are decorated with geometric figures, notably the triangle and the diamond, and are often less colorful but with more refined decoration.
